Chewing Gum
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16
A recent article shared with me explored the history of chewing gum, claiming that it goes back 10,000 years. I'm not big on chewing gum, but the article did spark a thought. Chewing gum is a lot like social media. You chew and chew, but get virtually no nutritional value. In like manner, people scroll and scroll and get no real intellectual value. Both give you something to do, but neither benefits greatly.
I'm not an anti-social media person; in fact, I have a profile on many sites. But just like an apple is better than gum, the Bible is better than Facebook. One gives us something to do, but the other changes our lives! Jeremiah put it so well—eating God's Word leads to joy and rejoicing.
Dear Heavenly Father, Please help me choose Your Word over what the world produces. I know I don't need just something to do; I need to be changed and transformed by the renewing of my mind. Please make Your Word sweet to my mouth. In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen.
