Dealing With Disappointment
The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 CSB
It appears in our lives in varying degrees, from small to large, from discouraging to crushing. I'm talking about disappointment. The other night, I faced a disappointment that took the wind out of my sails. It had been a great day until then, and then disappointment appeared.
What do we do with our disappointment? Is it even OK to be disappointed? We realize that we don't deserve anything, but hell, so how can we ever be disappointed? While that's true, thankfully, God doesn't give us what we deserve. He gives us mercy and grace. He also remembers that we are human, and humans deal with disappointment.
This brings us to the good news. For the child of God, disappointment can bring about something extraordinary in our lives—a recognition of God's presence. Notice that the Psalmist wrote that God is near those who are brokenhearted. If you are dealing with heartache, remember that God is there. We might miss Him when everything is going great—after all, we're too busy enjoying our blessings! But when disappointment comes, it stops us in our tracks.
Whatever disappointment you might be facing at the moment (from mild to major), run to the Father; fall in His grace. He's there, and He cares.
Father, Thank you for this truth about You. I am never alone. Even when my heart gets broken, You are there to put it back together again. Thank You for loving me, holding me, and helping me. Thank You that You never disappoint. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
