Fighting Fear
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
In a nationwide study completed in 2016, Americans revealed their top three fears: corrupt government officials, terrorist attacks, and not having enough money for the future.*
I imagine those fears are still valid for many people. And these are just their top three! I wonder how long the list really is.
Fear can consume us, paralyze us, and hinder us in many ways, but God does not desire for us to live with a spirit of fear (see 2 Timothy 1:7). He wants us to walk by faith, trusting Him.
If we are going to live in faith rather than fear, we must get to know our Father better. It's hard to trust someone you don't know that well! This brings us back to the basics - time in the Word, time in prayer, and time with other believers who can encourage us in our faith.
If you're struggling with fear, Isaiah 41:10 is a verse you should memorize. Hide it in your heart, so you can live it out when you're tempted to give in to fear.
Dear Heavenly Father, I am so grateful that You are my God. I know that You are trustworthy, capable, and longing to help me live a life free from anxiety and fear. Help me to grow in my faith, my trust, and my love for You. In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen.
