Handling Your Anger
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8 NKJV
Tom Cruise seems to have it all—good looks, fame, fortune, and success. But don't upset him! According to his ex-manager, Tom has an explosive anger problem. The crew of the movie Mission Impossible 7 experienced it firsthand.
Sadly, Tom is on his own when it comes to controlling his temper because he does not know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In a real sense, he's living out Mission Impossible: Controlling His Anger!
Christians may have trouble with their tempers, but are not left to themselves. In the power of the Holy Spirit, they can "put off" their anger, wrath, and malice like they would a dirty shirt or pants. In fact, the Holy Spirit is working to bring about in them love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).
If you are struggling in this area, may I suggest three actions to take? First, pray for help. Second, memorize and meditate on James 1:19-20 and Ecclesiastes 7:9. Third, cooperate with the Spirit's working in your life.
Dear Father in Heaven, I come today confessing that anger has a hold on me. Forgive me and help me to yield to You. Please help me obey Your Word when You said, "Be angry but don't sin." I pray today for the Spirit's filling in my life to bring about fruit that pleases You. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
