He Is With Me
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
I recently read a story about a little boy whose mom died. At night, he was especially sad and lonely and needed comfort. He would come into his father’s room and ask if he could sleep with him. The compassionate father agreed, but even this was not enough. In the dark, the boy asked, “Father, is your face turned toward me now?” Only when the father assured him that his face was turned toward him could the little boy rest.
The doctrine of omnipresence is a glorious one. God is present everywhere all the time (Psalm 139:7-10). To know this truth with your head is good, but to understand it with your heart makes all the difference in the world!
In the familiar words of Psalm 23, David said it plainly: “I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.” Note that God doesn’t promise we won’t face trouble. Jesus even warned us that in this world we would have tribulation (John 16:33). But He does promise to be with us. In fact, Jesus made this precious promise: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).
Christian, no matter what comes your way - even the worst things - you can confidently say, “The Lord is with me.”
J. Oswald Sanders was correct: “Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of God.”
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are with me this very moment. I am so grateful that I don't have to face anything in life without You being by my side. I know You see me, hold me, and help me. I lean today on your powerful, everlasting arms. Help me not to fear, but to remember that Your face is turned toward me. In Jesus’ precious Name, I pray, Amen.
