Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1
In a waiting room 25 years ago, I watched live as the second plane flew into the World Trade Center. At that point, we didn’t know exactly what was happening. We had no idea that we were under attack, or that our nation would never be the same again. People went to work, boarded planes, and went through their normal routines, totally unaware that it would be their last day. People died, our nation mourned, and our sense of security shattered.
None of us are promised tomorrow. As the Scripture above warns, don’t boast about that which is uncertain. This truth brings to mind two action points.
1. Make sure that you know Jesus as your Savior.
2. When that is settled, LIVE every day that the Lord grants you. And when I say “live,” I don’t mean just take up space. Enjoy life! Enjoy the blessings God has given you. Kiss your spouse. Hug your kids. Say, “I love you.” And point others to Jesus.
Today could be your last day, so make it a good one. Live for the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of today. Help me to live it fully for Your honor and glory. Please help those who do not know You to come to salvation before it is eternally too late. And I pray for all of those who are still struggling with what happened on 9/11. May they find peace and comfort in You. In Your Son’s Name I pray, Amen.
