Never Enough
The one who loves silver is never satisfied with silver, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is futile. Ecclesiastes 5:10 CSB
The headline says it all: “’$1 billion isn’t enough’ - Shaquille O’Neal on why he wants to marry a rich Arab princess.”1
How much money is enough? A reporter asked that question to one of the richest men of his time, John D. Rockefeller. His reply? “Just a little bit more.”
Do you notice a theme with these super-wealthy people? Why do they want more? Well, when someone puts their security in money, wealth, and assets, there is never enough. There is always “more” needed to keep them a little “safer.” God warns about this in 1 Timothy 6:17, where He says, Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.
There is nothing wrong with money. In fact, we must have it to live in our world. But there is something wrong with trusting money instead of God. Money can disappear quickly! Proverbs 23:5 warns us that In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.
The lesson is simple: Use Money, but Trust God.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for providing for my needs and many of my wants. I acknowledge that You are the true source of the resources that I enjoy. Help me always trust You rather than my accumulated money and assets. For in reality, none of it is mine anyway. It all belongs to You. I love You and thank You, In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
